Perl Oasis Planning - 6/10/08

Our original topic for this evening was moved to the July date instead.  Tonight the group discussed the Perl Oasis One Day Conference which is tennatively scheduled for January of 2009.  The conference will focus on practical applications of Perl and offer topics suited for both beginners and seasoned hackers.  We are already well on our way to lining up some great talks and securing an awesome keynote.

The cost to attend the conference will be very very cheap.  Our initial goal is $10 per person but more details will be available in the coming months and this is certainly subject to change.  We are committed to making the conference accessable to everyone.

Attendance at tonights meeting was excellent with a few new faces in addition to our existing Mongers!

Moose - 5/13/08

Chris Prather did an awesome presentation on Moose.  After that everyone hung out, ate some food, and discussed ways we could be better Perl advocates and how better to get the word out about Orlando Mongers.  Several ideas came out of the discussion and are in the works.

  1. Post around to some other sites to announce meetings.
  2. Work on hosting a day long Perl Workshop.
  3. Reach out to the area Linux User Groups and let them know we are here.
  4. Attend the next BarCamp and get the word out there.

This was a really good meeting.  We had about 10 people in attendance and everyone expressed interest in helping out.

MP2 - 4/8/08

First meeting down... the rest should be cake.  Roy Johnson presented on the basics of mod_perl2.  The talk generated quite a bit of discussion and several real-world examples of MP2 in action were reviewed.

After the talk there was a short feedback session on how everyone felt the first meeting went and whether or not there were any ideas or suggestions for future meetings.
